The British TV show Doctor Finlay is based on A. J. Cronin's stories about a hero named Dr. Finlay. It is a follow-up to the popular BBC show Dr. Finlay's Casebook. It happens in the 1940s, after John Finlay comes home from serving in the war. In the early parts of the story, the new National Health Service is set up, and the medical practice at Arden House in Tannochbrae, Scotland, is updated. Dr. Finlay is played by David Rintoul, Dr. Cameron is played by Ian Bannen, and Janet, his housekeeper, is played by Annette Crosbie. Finlay's assistant, Dr. Neil, who is played by Jason Flemyng, and Finlay's new partner, Dr. Napier, who is played by Jessica Turner, are also important characters. The show was made by Scottish Television and shot in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland. It was shown on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre in the United States.
