In 1972-73, CTV aired a Swiss-Canadian television series called George on Thursday nights. In the 1971 film George!, a St. Bernard dog and his Swiss owner go on a series of adventures. Both the feature film and the subsequent half-hour television series starred Marshall Thompson. In a Thursday night time slot, the sitcom made its début on CTV on September 16, 1972. After one season, George was cancelled in 1973. Blaik Kirby of the Globe and Mail called the show "abysmal." CTV affiliates aired the series on Saturday mornings for years after its brief run and mixed reviews, despite the show's short run and mixed reviews.
