Instant Star is a Canadian television show that ran from September 2004 to June 2008. Alexz Johnson played Jude Harrison, a teenager who won a music competition when he was young. The show tells the story of Harrison's time in the music business while focusing on character development. Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn of Epitome Pictures made the show. The show first aired on CTV in Canada before being picked up by Viacom's teen network channel The N, now called TeenNick, in the United States. The show became the second most popular show on The N. Degrassi: The Next Generation, a Canadian show also made by Schuyler and Stohn, was the most popular show. After its first season in 2005, Instant Star was nominated for three Gemini Awards for Best Children's or Youth Fiction Program or Series. The nominations included Best Series, Best Performance, and Best Direction. The show got the award for Best Direction for the episode "You Can't Always Get What You Want." On August 28, 2007, the show got three more Gemini Award nominations in the category of Best Children's or Youth Program or series. Alexz Johnson was nominated again for Best Performance, and there were two more nominations for Best Direction: Graeme Campbell and Pat Williams.
