British comedy-drama Minder is about London's criminal underworld. Originally produced by Verity Lambert, it was made by Thames Television's Euston Films and shown on ITV. The show aired for ten series between 29 October 1979 and 10 March1994. Dennis Waterman played Terry McCann, an honest and charming bodyguard, while George Cole played Arthur Daley, a socially ambitious but unethical importer-exporter, wholesaler, and used-car salesman. The show popularized the term minder in the UK and Australia. The characters typically drank at the members-only Winchester Club, where barman Dave functioned as Arthur's messenger and ignored his illicit dealings. The series used many leading British actors and up-and-coming performers before they got it big; it was one of ITV's biggest ratings triumphs. In2008, it was reported that Minder will return in2009, although none of the original cast would appear. The new show starred Shane Richie as Arthur's nephew Archie. The show debuted on Feb.4, 2009. In2010, no more episodes were made after the first series' tepid reception.
