In the television series Person of Interest, the protagonist, John Reese, is a former CIA paramilitary operative who is thought to be dead. He joins forces with a reclusive billionaire named Finch in an effort to reduce the number of violent crimes that occur in New York City by carrying out their own brand of justice. Because of Reese's extensive background in covert operations and Finch's prowess in the field of software development, the two of them are an ideal combination for the covert operation that they are tasked with carrying out. They operate "beyond the law" with the use of surveillance equipment in order to catch the proper criminal and place them in jail.
