The Covert Investigations Unit (CIU) takes a chance by going undercover to join criminal groups and bring them down. In this new style of short-term, high-intensity undercover work, each "play" is planned quickly and carried out even faster. When the cops are put into different worlds of crime without a safety net, they are always in danger because they keep going off the grid. The CIU's police officers have to think quickly, talk smoothly, and rely on pure instinct when they wear wires, get people to confess, and set up stings. They switch between roles so often that they sometimes forget who they really are.
