Power Play was a Canadian drama series that aired on CTV from 1998 to 2000. The series was filmed at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. Michael Riley played Brett Parker, a former sports agent in New York City who became the general manager of the Hamilton Steelheads, a team in the National Hockey League. One of the main themes of the show was Parker's love-hate relationship with the sport, the team, and his boss at McArdle Industries, played by Kari Matchett, corporate executive Colleen Blessed. Gordon Pinsent played Duff McArdle, the owner of the team. Jonathan Crombie, Jennifer Dale, and Al Waxman were also in the cast. The show's theme song was a modernized version of "The Hockey Song" by Stompin' Tom Connors. Connors himself sang part of the song, and then the band Rusty took over. Starting in1999, the show was shown for a short time on the US network UPN, but it was taken off the air after only two episodes. The second episode that was shown in the US had the lowest ratings of any episode of any prime-time TV show that has ever been shown on any US network.
