Quirke
Quirke is the head pathologist at the Dublin city morgue. He is a charismatic loner whose job as an investigator of sudden deaths in 1950s Dublin takes him to interesting places. His pleasures in life are raw and deep: a drink, a cigarette, good food, and a woman. In particular, he enjoys being with Sarah, who is married to his adoptive brother. This forbidden love has shaped and ruled Quirke's life.
