Quinn Mallory, a kid prodigy from San Francisco, unlocks the portal to an endless number of Earths in his basement. During a test run, Quinn brings coworker Wade Wells and his teacher Professor Maximillian Arturo to view his new invention. However, a surge in power and an early departure put the three, along with a washed-up soul singer dubbed Rembrandt "Crying Man" Brown, in a parallel reality. They must now "slide" from world to world, adapting to their new environments while also attempting to return to their original world. Will they ever be able to return home?
