It was written by Eric Sykes, who had previously co-starred with Hattie Jacques in Sykes and A... and Sykes and a Big, Big Show. The show starred Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques, and Sykes wrote the script. The episode "Bus," which was based on "Sykes and a Following" from 1964, and the episode "Stranger" with guest star Peter Sellers, which was based on "Sykes and a Stranger" from 1961, were both examples of remade episodes from the 1960s black and white series that were adapted for the 1970s color series. The idea of Sykes was the same as that of Sykes and A..., and the same actors, Sykes, Jacques, Richard Wattis, and Deryck Guyler, all played their previous parts again. Hattie Jacques suffered a heart attack on October6,1980, which resulted in her passing away, putting a stop to the series.
