The CIA was the focus of the CBS drama series The Agency. Michael Frost Beckner was the show's creator and executive producer, along with Shaun Cassidy Productions and Radiant Productions, which worked with Universal Network Television and CBS Productions to bring the show to the screen. It ran for two seasons, from September 27, 2001 through May 17, 2003. This was the first time footage from the actual CIA headquarters had been used in a film. The show's treatment of the ethical dilemmas that arise in intelligence work and its examination of current international issues were both contentious. After Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda terrorist network plans a lethal strike on the West, Beckner wrote a pilot script for a re-invented CIA tasked with the "War on Terror." It was scheduled to premiere on September 18, 2001, however the 9/11 events caused CBS to postpone the premiere and air a later episode instead of holding the pilot. The first episode of the first season was rerun as episode number three.
