The City is a reality television show that ran on MTV from December 29, 2008, until July 13, 2010. The series aired two seasons and centered on the personal and professional lives of various young women living in New York City, New York. It was created as a spin-off of The Hills. Adam DiVello came up with the idea for the show, and Liz Gateley was the executive producer. Whitney Port, who had previously appeared in the series, was introduced to Diane von Fürstenberg when she began her new job. Her coworker Olivia Palermo, Port's boyfriend Jay Lyon, his roommate Adam Senn, and her friend Erin Lucas were also highlighted. For the second part of the inaugural season, the latter three were replaced by Port's roommate Roxy Olin and Palermo's rival Erin Kaplan. The City earned mixed reviews from reviewers and was a less popular film than The Hills. The series, like its predecessor, was panned for favoring a narrative pattern more typical in scripted genres such as soap operas and for appearing to invent much of its plot. All seasons of the show are now available on DVD.
