In the 1970s, Dan Stark and his partner, Frank Savage, were well-known Dallas detectives. So big, in fact, that when they saved the Governor's son, they were hailed as American heroes. Dan Stark is a washed-up detective who spends most of his time getting drunk or talking about his glory days. Jack Bailey, Dan's new partner, is an ambitious, by-the-book, and overall good detective, but he can be a bit too snarky sometimes. His habit of putting himself down has gotten him a dead-end job in the department, where he has to deal with annoying small theft cases that no one else wants. Worse, he has to take care of Dan, the drunk outcast who can't keep a partner for long, which is a thankless job.
