The Love Boat is an American television series set aboard a cruise ship that aired from September24, 1977 to May5, 1986 on the ABC Television Network. The show featured Gavin MacLeod as the captain of the ship. Until1984, it was a part of ABC's famed Saturday night schedule that included Fantasy Island. The original 1976 made-for-television movie The Love Boats was based on the nonfiction book The Love Boats by cruise director Jeraldine Saunders. There would be two additional TV movies before the series began airing. Aaron Spelling, who created a number of successful ABC shows from the 1960s to the 1980s, served as executive producer for this series. The episode titled "Hidden Treasure," "Picture from the Past," and "Ace's Salary" was voted No. 82 on TV Guide's list of the 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time in 1997. There were ten seasons of The Love Boat, including specials.
