From 1965 through 1975, the groundbreaking British sitcom Till Death Us Do Part was shown on BBC1 in the United Kingdom. After making its debut as a pilot episode on Comedy Playhouse, the show ran for a total of seven seasons until 1975. Six years later, ITV picked up where it left off with the sitcom and gave it the name Till Death.... A sequel titled "In Sickness and in Health" was produced by the BBC from 1985 to 1992. Till Death Us Do Part was written by Johnny Speight and centered on the East End Garnett family. The show's father, Alf Garnett, is a reactionary white working-class man who harbors racist and anti-socialist ideas. Johnny Speight was the show's creator. Dandy Nichols was the actress who played his patient and kind wife Else, while Una Stubbs was the one who portrayed their daughter Rita. Mike Rawlins, Rita's intelligent but somewhat slacker of a husband, is a communist. Mitchell portrayed the role of Alf Garnett on stage and television up until 1998, when Speight passed away. Over the course of his career, Alf Garnett became a well-known figure in the culture of the United Kingdom. In addition to the spin-off film In Sickness and in Health, the original film Till Death Us Do Part has been remade in a number of countries, including the United States of America, Germany, and Brazil. It is believed that a good number of episodes from the first three series no longer exist since they were destroyed in the late 1960s and early 1970s in accordance with the protocol that was in place at the time.
