To Catch a Predator is an American reality television show based on Dateline NBC's hidden camera investigations. It was dedicated to impersonating minors and detaining male adults who contacted them for sexual liaisons via the Internet. People were enticed to meet with a decoy under the guise of sexual intercourse, only to be confronted afterwards. In an interview with NPR News, show presenter Chris Hansen explained that these people should be considered potential sexual predators rather than pedophiles. "People who are interested in prepubescent sex are pedophiles," he explained. In November 2004, the series premiered, with a total of 12 investigations taking place around the United States. With the support of online watchdog group Perverted-Justice, the investigations were performed as undercover sting operations. Law enforcement and other officials have been involved since the third installment, resulting in the arrests of the majority of those captured. Since December of 2007, no new episodes have broadcast. To Catch a Predator has been aired locally on the NBC stations WTMJ in Milwaukee, KSHB in Kansas City, and WBRE.
