The film "100 UP" examines what it means to have the will to live. It depicts a colorful assortment of centenarians and great-grandcentenarians from different parts of the world. They have been around for more than a century and have seen incredible things happen throughout history, but rather than ruminating on the past, they are focused on the future. These centenarians, aware that time is passing them by inexorably, cling to life, establish new goals with a joie de vivre, and refuse to acknowledge the treachery of their aging bodies. Time is both their ally and their adversary in this struggle. They have conquered illnesses, suffered the loss of loved ones, and some of them have even lived through the birth of their own children. In spite of this, those beyond the age of 100 who are still lively, inquisitive, and creative are very adept at beginning over each new day.
