9th Company
The film begins in late 1988 in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, when military recruits Petrovsky, Ryaba, Chugun, Stas, Pinochet, Lyutev, and Vorobyev are beaten into shape at a training camp by the violent, sadistic commander, Warrant Officer Dygalo, before being deployed to the front lines. The trainees head off to battle, first to the Bagram air base, then to the Afghani province of Khost to secure supply lines, after several one-on-one dalliances with the local whore, Snow White, and a cautionary lecture on Afghanistan's history, geography, and culture (which most of the men sleep through). Nothing, however, will prepare them for the savage devastation they will face, or the never-ending stream of slaughter that would leave thousands of Soviet victims in its wake.
