A Cowgirl's Story

Dusty Rhodes is a newcomer to Jefferson High School, and she stands out like a... well, a cowgirl, to put it mildly. As a native Texan, Dusty knows what it means to be a true cowgirl. A helicopter pilot mother and a Special Forces Army Ranger father are her parents. While initially considered an outcast, Dusty soon becomes friends with a group that includes Savanah, who was slain while fighting in Iraq three years before Dusty's birth. Savanah is a little bit Goth and Dusty is a little bit cowgirl, but they have a particular connection and bond because of it. Dusty is successful in convincing the school to accept the formation of an Equestrian Drill Team, and she recruits her new city-slicker buddies to participate on the team. In the midst of the team's training sessions, Dusty faces the anxieties that come with having a mother in the military.
