An artist friend of his father's inspires the child to follow in his footsteps and become a painter, too. Machisu, a poor loner, is able to pay for his art school education using money he earns from working. His first encounter with harsh criticism from a dealer is a bitter one, as he is introduced to a world of unusual creation.
