The young dockworker Jude is swept up in the waves of change that are reshaping the nation as he leaves Liverpool to go for his estranged father in the United States. Jude falls in love with Lucy, an American girl from a privileged background who is a part of the expanding anti-war movement in New York's Greenwich Village. As the number of casualties climbs in Vietnam, political tensions at home begin to spin out of control, and the star-crossed lovers find themselves in a psychedelic world gone mad, they find themselves in a world gone insane with psychedelics.
