It was Isshin Tendo who employed Nick Davis after Nick Davis served one year of a one-year prison sentence for the murder of a fellow prisoner. A raid on the location is launched by the Italian Mafia, led by Dino Campanela, and Nick is called in to rescue and preserve the life of Shuji Sawamoto, who is the Yakuza's representative in the United States of America. After Nick swears an oath to join the Yakuza, Shuji employs him to work for the organization and becomes his godfather in the family. Nick, on the other hand, is a lonely FBI undercover agent who has been assigned to infiltrate the criminal organization. As soon as the FBI learns that Campanela is planning an all-out attack on the Yakuza, Nick's boss Littman orders the operation to be halted in order to leave the dirty work to the Italian Mafia. Nick's relationship to Shuji and his goddaughter Yuko, on the other hand, compels him to assist his Japanese family members.
