Michael Jackson reigns supreme in 1984, and that includes Waihau Bay, New Zealand, where he was born. On a farm with his gran, goat, and younger brother, Rocky, 11-year-old Boy tells the story of his life (who thinks he has magic powers). Alamein, Boy's father, emerges out of nowhere after Gran goes away for a week. Having created a heroic image of his absent father, Boy is shocked to meet the real one—an inept hoodlum who has returned to retrieve a bag of cash he hid years earlier. The goat comes in through this opening.
