It's been 15 years since Billy Bigelow's death. He has long since given up his right to return to Earth for a single day, now that he is outside the golden gates. He's heard rumors of a rift in his family, specifically between his wife Julie Bigelow, née Jordan, and their unborn kid. He wants to return to Earth to help fix the problem, but he must first earn the gatekeeper's permission by telling him his story. The popular Broadway musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein has been adapted for the screen.
