Max has been in the wedding planning business for a long time and has seen a lot. His latest and last gig is a big party with stuffy period costumes for the caterers, a vain, overly sensitive singer who thinks he's a French James Brown, and a sad, micromanaging groom who wants to make Max's night as bad as possible. But the relationship is too painful to continue because Max's coworker and supposed girlfriend, Joisette, seems to have given up on him. She goes about her job calmly while openly flirting with a much younger server, which makes the situation even worse.
