Dakota
In1871, renowned gambler John Devlin marries Sandra "Sandy" Poli, the daughter of Marko Poli, a railroad magnate. Sandy wants to utilize their $20,000 savings to buy land options to sell to the railroad at a profit, knowing that the line will be expanded into Dakota. Jim Bender and Bigtree Collins, who practically own the town of Fargo, are among their fellow passengers on the stage trip to Ft. Abercrombie, and Devlin is aware that they are prepared to protect the little empire by burning their property, destroying their wheat, and blaming the devastation on the Indians. Sandy and John meet Captain Bounce, an irascible old seafarer, as they continue north on the river aboard the "River Bird." Slagin and Carp, two of Bendender's thugs, board the boat and rob John of his $20,000 at gunpoint. Captain Bounce on the lookout for the robber's dinghy.
