Stanley Kubrick's debut film, a black-and-white short topic documentary, is remarkable for being his first film. Kubrick produced and directed the film, which was based on a 1949 photo piece he shot for Look magazine. 'Day of the Bout' depicts Irish-American middleweight Walter Cartier on the day of his fight with black middleweight Bobby James on April17, 1950.
