Deacons for Defense

This drama is based on a historical tale and takes place in 1965, just after the Civil Rights Act was passed. Despite the law, African-Americans in Bogalusa continue to be treated as second-class citizens, with their human rights routinely violated by the local KKK chapter and the larger white power structure. Deacons for Defense, an all-black defense group dedicated to patrolling the black quarter of town and safeguarding its citizens from the more violent parts of "white backlash."
