Dolls
Every portion of Dolls begins with a story told by puppeteers and their masters and then moves on to action given by the film's real actors. This style of puppeteering, known as Bunraku doll theater, is the inspiration for Dolls. When it comes to these stories, Matsumoto and Sawako (Hidetoshi Nishijima and Miho Kanno) stand out as a young couple on the verge of being torn apart by the demands of Matsumoto's parents, who want him to marry the daughter of his boss. At first, he accepts, resulting in Sawako's admission into the hospital. When he leaves his new wife at the altar to save Sawako, he sees that she is so helpless that a crimson rope must be put around her neck. With each other, they roam Japan's streets, meeting others who have also put fame, power, and money ahead of a lasting relationship.
