Exorcist: The Beginning

After witnessing traumatic events during WWII, Father Lankester Merrin takes a vacation from the Church to perform archaeological excavations in British-administered East Africa. Merrin discovers an ancient Byzantine church that was erected and then buried to keep evil out of the crypt below. The locals believe that exposing the cathedral has unleashed a demon, and they begin to brawl violently with British military personnel. Merrin must confront the devil that has taken possession of someone dear to him while the community devolves into chaos and violence.
