As a young adolescent, Amy's mother is slain in an apparent suicide. For the first time, she leaves the United States and settles in Canada with her eccentric father, an inventor. Until she discovers a nest of goose eggs that were left behind when a nearby forest was demolished. When the eggs hatch, Amy takes on the role of "Mama Goose" for the first time. This means that when the cold weather arrives, Amy and her father will have their work cut out for them.
