Freedom

Two individuals separated by more than a century are joined in their quest for liberty. Samuel Woodward and his family escaped from the Monroe Plantation outside Richmond, Virginia, in 1856. The family is guided north to Canada by a covert network of regular people known as the Underground Railroad. Plimpton, the infamous slave hunter, pursues them furiously. Samuel is forced to choose between vengeance and freedom as he is pursued like a dog and plagued by the unimaginable misery he and his forefathers have undergone. John Newton, the captain of a slave trader, sails from Africa to America 100 years earlier in 1748 with a load of slaves. Samuel's great grandpa is on board, and his existence is contingent on the fate of Captain Newton. Newton's life is profoundly altered by the expedition, and he leaves a legacy that will inspire Samuel and millions of others for decades to come.
