Great Expectations
In this Dickens adaptation, orphan Pip learns from lawyer Mr. Jaggers that a mysterious benefactor wishes for him to become a gentleman. When he is reunited with his childhood patron, Miss Havisham, and his first love, the beautiful but emotionally cold Estella, he discovers that the elderly spinster has gone insane as a result of being abandoned at the altar as a young woman, and has transformed her charge into a warped, unfeeling heartbreaker.
