A depressed loner, Bob Maconel, fantasizes about exploding the Los Angeles skyscraper where he works. He brings a handgun to his office with the intention of killing his coworkers and himself. He holds chats with his fish at home, who encourage him to do so. His supervisor treats him unfairly. While he is screwing his courage to the sticking point, he drops a bullet; while he is searching for it on the floor, another coworker executes Bob's plan. Bob emerges as a hero, while his one favorite colleague, a woman with a brilliant grin, is gravely injured. Bob may be able to assist her in overcoming despondency and rediscovering happiness and fulfillment in life. Or, is it impossible for a man like him, as everyone claims?
