In 1944, the stranded Marine Corporal Allison floats in a raft to Tuasiva Island in the South Pacific, where he encounters Sister Angela. She informs him that she is the island's sole occupant and was left behind by the runaway boat on its route to Fiji Island in search of the local priest. Stranded on the island, but surrounded by water, fish, and fruits, their idyllic existence comes to an end when the Japanese arrive to construct a base, forcing Allison and the nun to seek refuge in a cave. The crude marine supplies them with all they need to survive and falls in love with the nun.
