Artist Tom Warshaw recalls his terrible adolescence in the present. Tom spends out with Pappass, a mentally handicapped man, as a 13-year-old growing up in New York City in 1973. Tom's mother is depressed after her husband's death, and the young child is left to his own devices. Pappass feels abandoned when Tom develops a crush on a classmate, Melissa, and begins acting erratically.
