New Iberia police Lt. Dave Robicheaux wants to connect a local hooker's death to New Orleans mobster Julie (Baby Feet) Balboni, co-producer of a Civil War film. As a result of Elrod Sykes' discovery of a second body in the Atchafalaya Swamp near the film site, Robicheaux reopens his inquiry, believing the body is that of a black man murdered 35 years previously.
