Into the Woods
Many well-known fairy tales are used in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods to tell a story about family, love, growing up, and the gray areas between right and wrong. This performance was recorded by Digital Theatre live at London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. It was directed by Timothy Sheader, and Digital Theatre took the footage live. This movie is based on Brothers Grimm stories, but it gives them a dark and funny spin. The popular stories of Red Riding Hood, Jack, Cinderella, and Rapunzel are all mixed in with the Baker and his Wife's story and their quest to have a child. Because the characters are in new situations and their hopes and dreams are rethought, this re-telling goes beyond "happily ever after."
