Kwaidan
This anthology, which takes its title from an archaic Japanese phrase that translates as "ghost story," adapts four traditional Japanese folk tales. Unfortunate circumstances lead to the marriage of a penniless samurai for financial gain. Yuki the Snow Maiden rescues a man who has become stuck in a blizzard, but his rescue comes at a high price. Hoichi, a blind musician, is compelled to perform in front of a ghostly audience. The story of a samurai who sees the mirror of another warrior in his teacup is told by an author.
