Wendy, Andy, and their twentysomething twins, Natalie and Nicola, reside just north of London. Wendy works in a shop, teaches aerobics at a primary school, makes vaudevillian jokes, agrees to work as a waitress at a friend's new restaurant, and adores Andy, a cook who perpetually puts off home remodeling projects. Wendy also buys a broken down lunch cart with the help of a drunken friend. Natalie is a plumber with short clean hair and a snappy, sardonic demeanor; she has a trip to America planned but little more. Nicola, the odd man out, has a snarl, large spectacles, cigarette, mussed hair, nervous fingers, and is bulimic, jobless, and miserable. The film examines their interactions and how they resolve familial strife and love.
