Paula Nelson travels to Atlantic City to meet her lover, Richard Politzer, but finds him dead upon her arrival and proceeds to investigate his death. In her hotel room, she encounters Typhus and knocks him out. Later, his body is discovered at the residence of writer David Goodis. Paula is taken into custody and questioned. From that point on, she meets numerous gangsters.
