Based on André Carl van der Merwe's book, Moffie (a derogatory Afrikaans word for a gay man) tells the story of Nicholas van der Swart. From a very young age, he knows that he is different. No matter what he does, he can't live up to the macho image that his family and his heritage expect of him. At the age of 19, he is forced to join the South African army, where he is offended by a system that is almost over but is still in full force. Set during the South African border war against communism, this is a long overdue story about the emotional and physical pain that many young men went through.
