Jacek likes metal music and his dog. They become a racetrack for him. He drives down the country lanes outside his front door in his little car. Everybody runs for cover when he and Dagmara start dancing. He enjoys being a "cool misfit" in an otherwise "stuffy" place. He keeps his muscles in shape by working on a building site near the Polish-German border, where the world's largest statue of Jesus is being built. But then he has a terrible accident at work that completely disfigures him. His life then goes in a different direction. Jacek is a story that the Polish media is very interested in. He becomes the first person in the country to get a face transplant. Whether or not he is a national hero or a martyr, he can no longer see himself in the mirror. The statue of Jesus grows taller and taller as time goes on. When things happen to Jacek quickly, the film doesn't lose sight of the bigger picture and instead brings things even closer to home.
