Once upon a time, a pirate known as the Great Gold Pirate Woonan amassed nearly one-third of the world's gold. Over time, the pirate's existence faded, and a legend grew that he vanished with his gold to a remote island, which pirates are still looking for. Luffy and his crew, starved and reckless, are robbed of their treasure aboard the Going Merry. In an attempt to reclaim it, they wreck the escape ship, led by a young boy named Tobio, a captured member of El Drago's pirate crew. El Drago's desire for gold drives him to seek out Woonan's island, which he discovers thanks to Woonan's treasure map. During this time, Luffy's crew has been divided, and they must find a way to prevent El Drago from obtaining Woonan's gold, despite their own circumstances.
