Although this version is in color, has a different cast, and is set in1998, it is closer to a shot-for-shot remake than the majority of remakes, with Gus Van Sant frequently mimicking Hitchcock's camera movements and editing, and Joseph Stefano's writing being mostly retained. Also re-used is Bernard Herrmann's score, albeit with a fresh arrangement by Danny Elfman and recorded in stereo.
