Pulse
It looks like a smart pulse of electricity is moving from house to house. In order to terrify the people, it takes control of the appliances and either kills or causes them to wreck the house in an effort to destroy it. Then it spreads to the next house via the power lines, reigniting the horror. The pulse is now in the home of a boy's divorced father, whom he is visiting. It has already wrecked a house in a quiet area. It slowly engulfs everything, injuring the stepmother, and trapping the father and son, who must fight their way free.
