Q Ball
Across the Bay from the NBA champion Golden State Warriors is a another Warriors club that exclusively plays at home. Some of the San Quentin Prison squad's potential players had their lives wrecked by felony convictions. The arduous path to rehabilitation is the focus of this eye-opening, uplifting documentary. The focus of Q Ball is on determined guys wrestling indelibly with the enormity of their misdeeds and seeking salvation. The film focuses on about-to-be-paroled star player Harry "ATL" Smith, who has not given up his NBA dreams; Anthony "Ant" Ammons, a lifer who has become a mentor to younger inmates; and head coach Rafael Cuevas, a convicted murderer who understands his role in preparing his players for life on the outside. For all three men, the squad is more than simply a source of entertainment; it is also a type of family.
