Save The Cinema is based on the true tale of Liz Evans, a hairdresser and leader of a youth theatre in Carmarthen, Wales, who launched a campaign to save the Lyric Theatre from closure in 1993. They recruited the support of Steven Spielberg, along with then-Mayor of Carmarthen Richard Goodridge (the film switches this position to a local councillor), to get a special premiere of Jurassic Park.
