Sawdust and Tinsel
A circus caravan arrives in Albert the ringmaster's hometown on a dreary morning. He hasn't seen them in three years and has a mistress, Anne, a young and attractive woman. Anne, enraged and desperate, goes to a theatrical group and lets an actor, Frans, seduce her in exchange for a necklace he claims is precious. Around the same time as Anne discovers it's useless, Albert's wife refuses to let him reside with the family. Albert and Anne are stuck with the circus and each other; there's a show tonight, Frans will be there sneering and sarcastically, the bear is unkempt, the clown as sour as they come, and death is the only way out.
