Sayonara
It is revealed that Major Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando), an Air Force Major stationed to a Japanese air base, was subjected to racial prejudice from the United States. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that a number of the servicemen fall in love with Japanese women in defiance of military policy. When a friend of Gruver's, an enlisted soldier Joe Kelly (Red Buttons), falls in love with a Japanese woman Katsumi (Miyoshi Umeki) and marries her, Gruver is forced to take a position. As best man, Gruver puts himself in jeopardy of losing his job.
